The Void Road: Speedvagen Workshop Build-Off x McFetridge

To determine the next season’s installment in their Ready-Made program Speedvagen put it up for a public vote. While all submissions were mindblowing, well, get Geoff McFetridge on board and you’ve got my vote.

The Radavist’s John Watson was on hand to capture all of the bikes that part of the process, one in particular instantly grabbed our attention — Los Angeles artist Geoff McFetridge’s statement road bike.

While an initial glance at Geoff’s entry might look nonchalant, anyone familiar with his artworks will recognize this as a highly personalized interpretation of Speedvagen’s brief and an evolved addition to his portfolio of bicycle-focused work.

McFetridge has decorated plenty of bikes — you might remember his work with Rob English, the astounding Project Right and the collaboration with Tucson’s Freewheel Bikes where he painted a Parlee TT frame.

Frankly speaking, Geoff’s a mad cyclist and has worked with many partners in the LA bike-o-sphere: Golden Saddle Cyclery’s bidons, stickers, and signage, the Mudfoot CX team’s livery, as well as the amazing bike he designed for Patagonia.

The Speedvagen project is centered around the idea of The Void — that special, personal space that the bicycle allows, the simple naive escapism of going for a ride. Geoff’s artwork symbolizes the atavistic notion of a return to innocence.

There are several other concept bikes by exceptionally talented and awesome cycling creatives in the Speedvagen #WorksShopBuildOff exercise, which you can view and vote for on the Speedvagen website or via The Radavist’s Instagram feed.

Big thanks to Richard Pool and John Watson for the photos.
