Hiking Gift Basket Ideas

If you have your life together enough, to plan far ahead enough, to put together your own hiking Gift baskets – I salute you! I’ve gone back and forth over the years between putting a lot of time, thought and effort into creating the perfect gift basket and then other times you just get a gift card delivered via email – sorry friends.

While Hiking Gift baskets may take a little extra thought and time to put together, it is so worth it to go the extra mile and gift something you know your hiking friends and loved ones will truly appreciate and use for years down the road.

8 Hiking Gift Basket Ideas

A complete hammock setup. A hammock, bug net, rain fly, and the straps and carabiners needed to set it up all wrapped up with a bow would be such a great gift for anyone who’s looking to start hammock camping. Use coupon code ADVENTURE15 for 15% off your entire purchase at Serac Hammocks. If you’re going for extra brownie points, add in this ultimate guide to hammock camping.

A cook set including a camping stove, cook pot, spoon, scrubbies and soap, and fuel. This is great for people who love to day hike, but are new to backpacking and starting to accumulate their gear, or looking to replace old, heavy gear they have lying around. If you want to add in a little extra love, include a few backpacking meals or their favorite trail snacks. Just keep in mind, you can’t fly with fuel canisters – so keep that local.

The hiker’s poop kit including: hand sanitizer, deuce of spades, and a toilet paper roll with the cardboard pulled out, all in a ziploc bag. This may seem like a silly hiking gift, but everybody poops! I even carry my ‘poop kit’ on day hikes, just because you never know. You can add on this book about pooping in the woods if they’re not already an expert

A backcountry hygiene kit: an ultralight, collapsible water bucket, pack towel, camp soap, disposable body or butt wipes, body glide, hand sanitizer, and, for the gentlemen, anti-chafing ball deodorant. A collapsible water bag or ‘bucket’ is super helpful if you want to do a bunch of dishes or wash yourself off in the backcountry. Even if you use all natural or biodegradable soap, that should never be used directly in a stream, lake or water source. These products are small but mighty when it comes to staying clean and comfy on the trail.

For hikers who love to read: Put together a basket or box of inspiring, adventure stories like Wild, A Walk in the Woods, Grandma Gatewood’s Walk, A Walk for Sunshine, or The Barefoot Sisters Southbound.

For coffee lovers: Bundle up an Aeropress, a camp mug, and good coffee. Any backpacker who drinks will coffee will appreciate a quick, easy to use, lightweight tool to make a good cup of coffee on the trail.

For wine lovers: a wine bag, electrolytes and a good bottle of wine. No hiker wants to carry a glass bottle of wine around in their pack, so a wine bag is a great way to enjoy your favorite beverage and relax at the campsite. And, of course, electrolytes, just in case you need a little boost to get hiking again.

A hiking safety kit: an emergency whistle, a pocket knife, compass, bear mace, first aid supplies, and ultralight compact fire starters. They may or may not need bear mace depending on where they’re hiking, but it never hurts to have.

Hopefully this gives you some good ideas, or at least a good starting point, to create your own kickass hiking gift basket! I’d love to hear any other gift ideas you have in the comments below.
