It’s the little things in life & finally running in the light.

** FYI: If you’re bored of tree pictures then this post is not for you. There are a lot of trees coming your way!

So this Morning I’m up at 6:15 for my 40 Minute slow run and as I’m running, it starts to get lighter. I’ve been running in the dark for the best part of 5 months so this was amazing –-> I honestly could not stop smiling! After 20 minutes into my run, the street lights had gone off and it’s as if it’s the middle of the day –-> it’s really starting to feel like spring and it means I can start extending my route a bit more which makes me super happy because I’m getting bored of running the same roads.

Halfway through my run, I got to see the most beautiful sunrise across the fields –-> I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to start my Friday morning!

The run was slow, as scheduled, and I finished 3 miles @ an average pace of 12 minute miles. This was the first run where I wasn’t bothered about my pace –-> in all honesty, I didn’t want the run to finish. It was just so nice to be able to run in the light –-> I was able to take in the scenery, my surroundings and it was a bit warmer which is always a bonus!

This was my third run of the week and although I didn’t want to get out of bed, I am super pleased I did.

On Monday I had a ridiculously short run –-> 10 minutes easy, 5 x 30 second strides and 5 minutes easy. It was one of the best runs purely because it only took 18 minutes. 1.44 miles @ 12:30 pace -> not the best of paces but this included a short recovery in between each stride.

Wednesday I decided to hit the gym in the morning and I did a killer arm and back workout and threw some ab exercises in at the end. I’ve got a holiday in 2 weeks so I’m doing my absolute best to try and tone up, just a little bit! I’m also trying to do more calf raises –-> this is somewhere I know is pretty weak so I’m trying to strengthen them up a bit.

I was aiming to do my intervals Wednesday evening but I didn’t get home until late so I got up super early on Thursday and did these at the gym. Early morning intervals –-> killer. I did 12 x 2 minute sprints at 11.5 KPM on the treadmill with a 1 minute rest in between. 36 minutes of intervals –-> 5K done.  I really rested in between sets to make sure I could give it my all during the sprints which really helped, although by the 10th one I was willing each second to go by!

Afterwards I did a few leg exercises to target my glutes and strengthen my ankles so come this morning, they hurt! I came across a video on Instagram the other day where you use the leg press to target your glutes – put your foot at an angle, turn your body to the side and press. It was ridiculously hard but it works so much  –-> although I used a super light weight because it’s a lot harder than it looks!

I’m so pleased that I’ve managed to get all my little runs in this week –-> I’ve got a half marathon run tomorrow morning which I’m looking forward to. Although I’m not running a organised half marathon, I get to run one of my favourite routes which makes me super happy! It’s the little things in life

I’ve also been trying to eat real balanced this week  –-> I’ve upped my protein, lowered my carbs on rest days and tried to experiment a bit. I ended up making a turkey mince and bean thing which didn’t look the best but actually tasted really nice! I’ve also been eating so much greek yoghurt this week  –-> topped with blueberries and honey is the best thing ever. I’ve been out a couple of times to eat but have tried to pick the ‘lighter’ options on the menu  –-> although my friend left her pizza crusts, both times, so obviously it would have been rude not to help her out!

How is everyone else’s week going?

What things do you tend to eat when you’re eating out?
