Microsoft Family is mourning the death of Pau Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975. The Billionaire philanthropist has been battling with cancer for several years.
According to a statement read by Allen’s sister Jody, her brother “was a remarkable individual in different levels.” As the world knew Allen as a technologist and philanthropist, the family knew him as a much-loved brother, uncle and an outstanding friend.
Allen has been involved in many activities in recent years, his latest accomplishment including owning NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers and NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. He has also had investments in a variety of businesses and launched countless charity ventures.
As one of the world’s billionaires, Allen also established Stratolaunch Systems whose accomplishments include building the world’s largest plane designed as a colossal rocket-launching aircraft deemed as the future of space travel.
The plane is set to be first demonstrated in 2019.
The death of Allen happened just two weeks after it was revealed that the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma which he had successfully fought 9 years ago had returned. The incurable cancer normally attack the white blood cells.
Bill Gates Heartbroken by Allen Death
Having been best of friends since their high school days, the death of Paul Allen has left Bill Gates ‘heartbroken.’ The lives of the two would soon change when Allen, as a computer programmer, managed to convince Bill to drop out of Harvard and create Microsoft. It did not take long before the company became the world’s most valued firm in the 1990s.
While remembering his teenage-hood friend, Bill said that he is heartbroken and proceeded to remember Allen as one of his oldest and dearest friends.
He remarked that had it not been for Allen, then personal computing would have never become a reality.
“He was the kind of a person who believed that if it can do well for humanity, then we should do it.”
Allen left Microsoft in 1983 as a result of health complications but held onto his shares that led to him owning a bulk of fortune, estimated to be $20 billion.
According to Vulcan, the investment firm which managed his operations, anyone who worked with Allen understands how extraordinary he was and can feel the pain of this loss.
His intellect was remarkable and the passion to deal with the world’s most difficult problems could not be described in words. “Allen understood that creative thinking and outstanding approaches was necessary to coming up with profound and long lasting impact.
Satya Nadella, the company’s CEO said that his quiet and persistent way of doing things led to the creation of magical products and as a result ended up changing the world.
One of the things he was most proud of was the creation of Allen Institute for Brain Science in which he invested $100 million in 2003.
10 years later, he made a major investment, creating the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence which has had impacts on new technologies. He also put up the Allen Institute for Cell Science whose aim is to fund the research of how diseases can be treated.
