Innovations in Technology Humanity Will Reach by 2030

How Technology changes and improves shocks us everyday. The world is moving forward fast, and we can see it through innovations. Before we know it, the future is already here, taking us by storm.

According to a report from The World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Software & Society, tons of tech innovations you hear about today will reach its tipping point by 2025.

To get an idea of which of these rumored and assumed technologies will turn mainstream in a couple of years, the Business Insider interviewed 800 executives and experts from the technology sector.

The results of the survey identified 15 breakthroughs in technology that are predicted to come true by 2030. Below are the technological shifts we can expect in the next 14 years.

#1. Unlimited Free Data Storage by 2018

We will never have to delete files ever, as the access to unlimited, free data storage will soon be ours. In just about 3 years, 90% of people worldwide will get access to this humongous storage that will be ad-supported.

Experts have seen it coming; as early as now companies are already offering free or cheap data storage. For example, Google Photos is offering unlimited data for photos, while Amazon lets you store unlimited data for just $60 a year.

As the price of a hard drive continues to fall, more and more companies are able to let consumers acquire unlimited space for storage. However, there’s this assumption may not be true. Recently, Microsoft cancelled its plan to offer unlimited storage on its cloud service OneDrive, which brought notions that unlimited data storage may not be possible —  perhaps, for now?

#2. Robotic Pharmacists by 2021

The number of robots in different workplace grows. Especially in the manufacturing field, robotics are utilized greatly where they offer utmost help. As innovations in robotics become more advanced, their abilities to do service-oriented work become better as well. That’s why respondents say that in 2021, robot pharmacists will be unveiled, and put to work.

#3. 1 trillion sensors connected to the Internet by 2022

“Every (physical) product could be Connected to ubiquitous communication infrastructure, and sensors everywhere will allow people to fully perceive their environment,” according to Business Insider.

Predictions say that by 2021, 1 trillion sensors will be connected to the internet. As the cost of sensors decline, the computing power increases. It means that within just a couple of years, all kinds of devices will have online integration. Even the clothes we wear and the ground we walk on will be connected to the internet, which explains why 1 trillion sensors will be up in the coming years.

#4. Clothes connected to the Internet by 2022

Today, we have accessories like watches and rings that are connected online. Not far from there, even the clothes we wear will be embedded with chips, and will be connected to the internet. By 2022, experts predict that the theory will come to life where 10% of people will be wearing clothes connected to the internet.

#5. 3D printed cars in production by 2022

3D printing is becoming more powerful as time goes. Printing complex objects is now possible using different types of materials. Even car companies are using 3D printing innovations to create car prototypes, and vehicle parts. In fact, Audi has recently created a miniature vehicle using a 3D metal printer. Furthermore, the automotive startup Local Motors is planning to produce full-sized 3D printed cars in a couple of years. The company has already unveiled their plans and prototypes for their production models.

#6. implantable mobile phone

By 2030, implantable mobile phones will be ‘a thing’. About 80% of respondents said that in seven years, humans will be attached to their smartphones in a literal manner. Such devices will be able to accurately track health, and allow communication through brainwaves or signal.

Today, there are now implantable medical devices for health like pacemakers and cochlear implants. It just proves that we’ll most likely adapt this technology on a wider type of devices like smartphones.

#7. Government will be replacing census with big-data technologies by 2023

Several countries like Canada are already using advanced technologies for data gathering and studying. Though no nation has completely replaced the traditional census method yet, in 2023 the first government may able to do so.

When advanced technologies take over the old methods, collecting, managing, and understanding data will become easier. Big data technologies will then be used to automate programs used by the government.

#8. 10% of reading glasses connected to the internet by 2023

Eyewear connected to the internet will become mainstream in 2023.  Once it happens, interacting with the world will become different. Direct internet access from eyewear to application will allow the use of augmented reality. Internet connected eye wear innovations will also make way for eye-tracking technology to control devices hands-free.

We have seen a similar technology like this in Google Glass, which is currently being developed to optimize its abilities. Now Google is working on contact lenses connected to the internet.

#9. Government collecting taxes for the first time via blockchain in 2023

According to Business Insider, “Digital currencies, like Bitcoin, use a mechanism called the blockchain to perform transactions. The blockchain is essentially a shared public ledger that everyone can inspect and no single person controls. Those using the system keep it up to date to continuously keep track of transactions.”

In year 2023, it’s predicted that blockchain technology will be used in collecting taxes by 2023. In fact, according to the Economist, the NASDAQ is about to use the same technology to record trading of private companies for security purposes.

#10. 90% of humanity has a supercomputer in their pocket by 2023

As the technology becomes more powerful every year, people are beginning to use smartphones more than PCs. We see the fast drop of smartphone costs, and the swift surge of technological developments. Due to this, Business Insider says, “the number of global smartphone subscribers is estimated to breach 50% penetration by 2017, and by 2023, about 90% of the population will be connected via smartphone.”

#11. Accessing the internet is a basic right by 2024

By 2024, almost all parts of the world will have access to the internet. Tech giants like Google and Facebook are coming up with creative ways to help the other 4 billion people who are not connected to the internet to be online.

Facebook built the Internet.org, which uses drones to beam internet down to Earth from satellites. While Google has Project Loon, which uses giant balloons floating in the atmosphere to help isolated parts of the world connect.

#12. The first 3D-printed liver transplant will take place from 2024

Technology is also used to promote health and save lives. 3D printers, specifically, have been used in the medical field for creating human parts like bones and organs. In fact, 3D printing has been used to create a patient’s rib cage, and bone replacements.

Soon bioprinting will come to life, where 3D printing and bioengineering merge. This innovation will make way to usable artificial organs in the future.

#13. More than 50% of internet traffic to homes will be from appliances and devices by 2024

Smart homes are slowly but surely taking over the modern houses. When more sensors will be deployed, a great shift in the internet traffic will take place. More devices will be connected to the internet, including home appliances that will soon be automated. Innovations in home-related items will become commonplace making routine tasks even easier to complete and monitor.

#14. 5% of consumer products will be 3D printed

As the price of 3D printers continues to drop, in no time, 3D printing at home will be in demand. According to Business Insider, “demand for the technology has already grown more than it was expected. In 2014, there were 133,000 3D printers sold worldwide, which is a 68% increase from 2013.”

Together with the increase of sales will be the growth in number of designers and manufacturing companies who use 3D printers to create their products. When anyone can do anything with this type of technology, creating different goods will become addictive.

#15. The first AI machine will join a corporate board of directors 2026

AI innovations will play a crucial role in the business world in a couple of years. With the ability of artificial intelligence to learn from previous situations, it can provide insight and automate complex decision process based on data and past experiences. With this, decision making will be much more accurate, with detailed data and information gathered by AI. Artificial intelligence will not only replace white collar jobs, it may also be a part of higher corporate ranks, like a member of the board of directors. Experts predict it may happen in 2026.

Have a look at what notable professor,  theoretical physicist, futurist, and popularizer of science, Dr. Michiu Kaku had to say recently on the subject :
