About 6000 years ago (4000BC), in the area between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers (today’s Iraq, Kuwait and parts of Syria, Turkey and Iran), there was a region called Mesopotamia. It is the place where the first civilization was born. Mesopotamia was a region rich in culture, especially around 1500 BC.
The city of Ugarit was located in today’s northern Syria. It is the city where the oldest written song on a clay tablet was excavated, around the 1950’. Today, it is known as The Hurrian Songs. The most complete of them is Hurrian Hymn to Nikkal, Goddess of Ugarit. This song was meant to be played on lyre, which was a common music instrument back then.
