Have You Ever Wondered What Causes Lightning?

Have you ever wondered how the Lightning is created? Well you are not that far from the answer!

The lightning is actually an Electric current, pretty much the same as the one we trigger when we start our car or we put our phone on charge. Except, it is in a far larger amount and also uncontrolled.

In order for that Electric Current to be created, there must be some electricity. That electricity is produced when the countless tiny frozen raindrops in the clouds clash into each other, affected by the winds up in the sky. Out of this collisions the electric charge is established, the positive electric charges (the protons) form at the top of the clouds, and the negative electric charges (electrons) form at the bottom of the clouds. When enough electricity is stored, the opposites (the protons and electrons) attract each other and Electric Discharge happens. That electric discharge is what we call lightning, and by the great force of it, we hear the sound of thunder.

This electric discharge mostly happens in the cloud itself, but sometimes it may occur between two clouds and finally, between a cloud and some object on the surface of the earth.

The lightning frequency on Earth is approximately 1.5 billion flashes yearly, which is about 50 flashes each second.

The lightning is approximately 54000 degrees Fahrenheit, or 27000 degrees Celsius.
