All You Need To Know About Chakras!

The word Chakra comes from the Sanskrit word for “wheel” or “circle”. It is thought that despite having a physical body, we also have energy body. In fact, a chakra is an endless energy flow at a specific point of our body.

Our bodies have a lot of chakras, but there are seven major of them.

1. Root Chakra – Muladhara

This chakra is represented by a lotus with four petals and the color red.

If you’ve read the article about the meaning of the colors, you’ll see that there are many similarities between the root chakra and the color red.

This chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is related to the basic behavioral instants, such as sexuality, survival, security, sensuality, anger, jealousy etc.

The root chakra is associated with the element of earth and the sense of smell.

When your root chakra is blocked many signs can manifest, such as: anger, fatigue, sexual dysfunction, selfishness, poor immune system, eating disorder being fearful etc.

How to balance your Root chakra:
  • Surround yourself with the color red. For example, light red candles in your room.
  • Connect with nature. Go for a walk in the nearest forest or even in the city park.
  • Practice yoga and meditate.
  • Sound therapy
  • Use healing stones for chakra cleansing

 2. Sacral Chakra – Svadhishthana

The sacral chakra is located in the lower abdominal, below the navel. It is symbolized by the color orange, the sense of taste and the element of water.

This chakra represents your sexual desire, creativity, fantasies, frustrations, prosperity etc. It is also responsible for your emotions and feelings.

Imbalance in this chakra can manifest as: guilt, shyness, lack of creativity, sexual obsession, lower back pain, being stuck in a particular mood etc.

 

How to balance your Sacral chakra:
  • Hip-opening yoga postures
  • Sacral chakra healing foods: oranges, melons, coconuts, cinnamon
  • Drink enough water and expose yourself near open water
  • Color therapy – wear orange clothes
  • Dance
  • Explore your creativity: singing, drawing, playing an instrument, writing.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra – Manipura

The third chakra is represented by a downward pointing triangle with ten petals, along with the color yellow, the sense of sight and the element of fire.

It is located in the stomach area, right above the navel.

The solar plexus chakra is responsible for your confidence, self-esteem, will power, success, ego, thoughts, but also to your digestive system.

When this chakra is blocked it can cause depression, inability to make decisions, anger, fear of rejection, diabetes, low blood pressure, arthritis etc.

How to balance your Solar Plexus chakra:
  • Sun meditation
  • Solar plexus chakra foods: bananas, sunflower seeds, yellow peppers, ginger.
  • Aromatherapy while meditating or doing yoga
  • Go out in the sun
  • Color and sound therapy
  • Practice breathing exercises
  • Visual arts like painting and drawing.

4. Heart Chakra – Anahata

The heart chakra is symbolized by a circular flower with twelve green petals called the heartmind. Within there are two triangles, forming a hexagram, symbolizing the union of the male and female.

It is located in the center of the chest, just above the heart. This chakra is represented by the color green, the sense of touch and the element of air.

The heart chakra is responsible for your trust, forgiveness, wisdom, stability, capacity of love, grieving.

When it is blocked it can manifest lack of hope, fear, anxiety, shallow breathing, lung disease, heart condition.

How to balance your Heart chakra:
  • Hug someone.
  • Surround yourself with green.
  • Yoga postures for hear chakra.
  • Be open with your emotions.
  • Sounds, colors and healing stones.
  • Give and receive love

5. Throat Chakra – Vishuddhi

The Throat chakra is the fifth chakra. It is located at the center of the neck at the level of the throat.

It is represented by the blue color and the sense of hearing.

The Throat chakra deals with your communication skills, intuition, self-knowledge, expression of feelings and truth, accepting your originality.

When this chakra is blocked it can cause addiction, lack or personal expression, lack of creativity, sore throat, teeth problems, hearing problems, thyroid dysfunctions.

How to balance your Throat chakra:
  • Sing your favorite songs.
  • Practice speech.
  • Practice deep breathing.
  • Surround yourself with blue color.
  • Relax by the sea.
  • Learn to play an instrument.
  • Throat chakra healing meditation.
  • Public speaking.

 

 6. Third-eye chakra – Ajna

The third-eye chakra is symbolized by a lotus with two petals and the purple or indigo color.

It is located on the forehead, between the eyebrows. This chakra is related to the element of light and the sense of sight.

It is responsible for your intellect, detachment, intuition, visualization, understanding, imagination, ability to make decisions.

If the Third-eye chakra is not balanced it can manifest in fear of everything, depression, various addictions, lack of concentration, confusion, headache, blindness, deafness, panic etc.

How to balance your Third-eye chakra:

  • Visualization meditation.
  • Healing stones, meditation and yoga.
  • Third-eye healing food: plums, blueberries, cabbage, kale.
  • Include indigo color in your home.
  • Encourage daydreaming.
  • Follow your intuition

7. The Crown chakra – Sahasrara

The crown chakra is considered to be the state of pure consciousness, within which there is neither object nor subject.

It is symbolized by a lotus with one thousand petals and it is located either at the crown of the head, or above the crown of the head. Sahasrara is represented by the color white and it is not related to any element.

This chakra is responsible for your intuitive knowledge, spirituality, emotional feelings, intelligence, conscious awareness, presence, wisdom.

If the crown chakra is blocked it can manifest loss of identity, apathy, fear, lack of trust, materialism, lack of ethics, sensitivity to light and sound, chronic exhaustion, boredom and frustration.

How to balance your Crown chakra:

  • Meditate in silence.
  • Balance your other chakras.
  • Sound and color therapy.
  • Fasting and detoxing your body.
  • Go to high places such as mountains.
  • Increase your intelligence.
