Pattern of CAT
CAT is a 3-hour computer-based exam held in Nov/Dec every year. It encompasses three sections (100 questions) Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC). The time assigned for each segment is one hour. It must be noted that you cannot flit from one section to another during the allotted 1 hour. Each question carries 3 marks and one mark is deducted for an erroneous answer. However, negative marking is not applicable to the non-MCQ type questions.
Remember, CAT is not just about an aspirant’s performance in the written test. It involves a lot more. Candidates who manage the overall cut-offs in the written test are shortlisted for group discussions and personal interview round (GD/PI) by IIMs. This is the final step of the selection process.
