Academic Age and Experience : Boon or Bane

It’s quite shocking to see that age and experience have become a bad thing! Just yesterday, I thought that having a detailed CV and wide-ranging skills meant that a person was a more desirable candidate. But my conversations with Potential university employers have proved my thinking to be wrong.

I’ve just completed my first post-doc. With that I also have 10 years of experience working  as a research assistant before starting my work towards my Ph.D. Naively, I assumed that all my potential employers would be more than glad to have a candidate who is already well-versed with new techniques and has a strong research focus. But time and again, I’ve been told that I’m “too old” or “too senior” to obtain a fellowship. Read more…
