Wikipedia defines Digital Marketing a “the marketing of products or services using digital technologies, mainly on the Internet, but also including mobile phones, display advertising, and any other digital medium”

Simply put, most marketing which sees you often check your phones and PC for the latest offerings in digital marketing! It uses every means which works of digital technology like PC, smartphones, tablets – even billboards these days, and uses the internet to communicate.

As for the latest trends which leads to various careers in digital marketing, the prevalent trends on 2018 include the following:

• Extensive use of Artificial intelligence:

With competition comes the need to cut costs and get more business. In doing that Artificial intelligence plays a very, very important role. Right from recording every move of the consumer to analyzing it over an extended period of time to predicting trends and suggesting alternatives, AI is involved with everything. And this it does across mediums and platforms by picking up information from multiple sources either directly or discretely. In the end, your product’s sale, its future, changes likely etc shall be mapped and predicted by machines! A survey by Gartner Incorporated predicts that by the year 2022, as high as 85% of all prediction exercise shall be managed by machines with very little coming from direct human intervention.

• Chatbots

Speaking to humans has its own set of challenges. They could be in a bad mood and their outcome would be very different from that had they been happy. Organizations, unfortunately, cannot work on a resource’s “mood swings”, especially ones which demand a lot in terms of pay-hikes, perks and a whole load of space all of which come at a cost. Instead, don’t you think it makes sense to simply use AI to do the needful?

              Yes, in jobs that do not need the kind of hardwiring humans have, companies are increasingly turning towards machines. And the experience for employers is too good! The output in terms of information can be recorded just there by the machines in advance “customer satisfaction” researches. Continuing the previous example, Gartner predicts that by 2025, it shall be chatbots which shall save close to an astounding USD 8 billion for industries as diverse as banking and healthcare!

• Influencer Marketing

The legions of followers of some twitter account holders and bloggers would the stuff of envy of most marketers. In Pune’s real-estate landscape, there is one by the name Shri Ravi Karandeekar whose followers figure in the lacs. Now imagine a scenario (it is just a scenario!) where he pitches for a builder/ realtor in Pune! For the realtor, it would mean bigger than a gold-mine! For the realtor, it would mean much less spends on direct sales and publicity. In the world of digital marketing where the influencer’s influence can sometimes transcend borders with them being represented on most forums including social media, blogs, youtube, and the likes.

• Visual Search

It completely does away with writing! Upload an image and let the search engine show you the results. Of course, the search engines to have to be updated to accept pictures as cues and clues. Pinterest apparently has put in USD 150 million whose valuation zoomed to USD 12.3 billion! Such is the interest in visual searches! For people not used to languages or don’t have the time to keep typing, this is more than a godsend!

Upload a visiting card and get all the details of the person, upload the picture of a place and get to know everything. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, an awesome idea is worth billions! And the world would be there to lap it up shortly!
