The quality of education in Singapore ranks among the best in terms of depth and coverage, and relevance with industry demands. The universities and colleges in Singapore lay a very strong focus on harnessing the maximum potential of their students and contribute to the development of the world economy. Due to its proximity to India and access to world-class learning at affordable pricing, and scholarships benefits, the competition to gain an entry into Singaporean university is increasing growing tougher. Unlike the first world economies like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia those that check for the overall aptitude in various areas like academics, extra-curricular activities, and volunteer projects, Singapore is more laser-focused on checking for scholastic excellence. To illustrate this, it may be understood in a manner that though your credentials and achievements in extra-curricular activities like being a class representative or achieving recognition for arts, drams, and the like may be appreciated such things won’t fit in as very strong criteria for admission. On the contrary, clearing an entrance test exam and impressive subject scores in Senior Secondary Examinations are worth much more in gaining final admission. Therefore, the rest of the things may serve just as add-ons and thus academic excellence for gaining admission in Singapore college/university just can’t and shouldn’t be compromised with.

For Indian students, performance in senior secondary examination acts as the qualifier for entry into undergraduate programs, also required to fulfill the subject prerequisites for the courses which they are applying in for. For example, if a candidate wants admission in Business Administration, then he or she needs to have passed Mathematics in 12th standard or at some other higher level. Equivalently, for candidates want to pursue engineering, one needs to have passed Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Requirements, however, may vary across institutes depending on requirements.

Application Requirements

As admissions into Singapore universities is highly competitive students are advised to put as much time into their application as possible. Academic culture in Singapore takes a general, holistic approach to education demonstrating radical shifts away from the importance of only grades as indicative of a student’s progress. Students are advised to emphasise their understanding of the breadth of their proposed subject area, what ‘real-world’ skills do they hope to foster through studies, lateral thinking ability, and breadth of character to carve out a strong niche in their chosen field of endeavour. The real thing is to stand out of the crowd and win the race. Academic achievements are the most highly regarded component of the application, so students preparing to take entrance tests as part of the selection process should invest as much time and effort as possible in obtaining a good score.
