Extravagance is not ideal when we are on a Study Abroad Program especially in daily expenses because it’s going to drain our pocket without our consciousness. Soon after arriving at a study abroad destination, we need to gather all the necessary information regarding our daily utilities and their availability so that we can judge where to purchase our groceries and other items. We have to be careful about our expenditures mostly regarding local travelling, accommodation, groceries and stationery since these basic amenities consume most of our money.

Know the Law of the Land

Though we have ingrained democratic principles in our blood, still we should be aware of the law of the host Country for our overseas education program since all the democracies across the world are not same. Before leaving your home country for your study destination, you need to acquaint yourselves with basic laws of the destination through your friends or university websites or the immigration websites of the host country. They give you complete picture regarding public life and dos and do not’s.

Know the Customs and Traditions of the Destination

Not only adhering to the law of the nation, students must know the customs and traditions of the host country so that a kind of respect can be inculcated among themselves because the beauty of old customs and traditions make us inquisitive and enthusiastic which can boost our spirit to mingle with natives and proliferate the optimism. Moreover, they help us broaden our understanding of the world and contribute to universal peace and mutual cooperation.

Be Cautious of Strangers

Be cautious of strangers since the social customs vary depending on nation, religion and language. In the wake of recent incidents on International students, it is mandatory to be reserved to some extent when we are in a foreign country on a study abroad program. Avoid places which are suspicious and risky. At the same time, be careful even in populated places to avoid any kind of skirmishes. You had better not to make new friendships in the first instance and without observing their behaviour. It does not mean that we should close ourselves from the rest of the world but to be alert in our surroundings.

Pack Lightly

Pack only those necessary items which are costly and unavailable in a foreign country. The main motive behind this is to lessen our burden both physically and mentally at the airport and also in a host country. Do not leave your luggage unattended during your journey and while in a foreign country.  You can easily list out the things which are essential for you by thoroughly checking the checklist sent by the university along with your offer letter.

Maintain Good Rapport with Faculties and Staff

Be friendly with your faculties and university staff since they are the ones whom you can trust during your study abroad program. This can be best done by achieving great academic records in your overseas education as an ardent lover of studies is beloved to everyone – this is universal truth irrespective of region, religion and language. Completing the assignments on time and active participation in seminars and other academic activities help you foster great relations with academic staff.

Keep a List of Important Phone Numbers

List out all the necessary numbers because we cannot predict any untoward incidents. Those numbers will be of great help to take quick decisions and actions. Phone numbers of a home country embassy, friends – both abroad and from home, family members, local police and university help desk should be always with us. We must not be negligent of this in any circumstance.

Make Copies of Important Documents

Take photocopies of all the educational documents and the credentials relating to your overseas education. Most importantly, you should be very protective of your passport whenever you go out with it. To be on safe side, preserve a few copies of your passport especially passport data page. Leave some copies of it and the visa with your family members. Photocopies of your medical insurance are also of great help when you lose them.

Maintain a Diary

Writing a diary is an intellectual work. Write down all the daily happenings both academic and personal in a diary so that you can recollect your memories in the future. It not only has aesthetic value but also some intellectual and academic importance. Furthermore, you can update yourselves with all the academic schedules without any inconvenience.

First Priority, Education

Throughout your study abroad program, your education should be prioritized over other mundane matters since your prime ambition is to acquire qualitative and world-class education. Hence, do not let any other things meddle your educational goals. Be involved in some extracurricular activities just to rejuvenate yourselves so that you can focus on your education with enhanced interest but not to subside it.
