11. CENTRE FOR HUMAN SETTLEMENTS AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (CHSUD)

Entry Requirements:

 

• First Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower in any discipline in Environmental Sciences, Science, Social Science, Agriculture or Engineering; or
• A Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field for holders of Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit.
• In Addition to (i) and (ii) above, a minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits in English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects in either Physics,                      Chemistry, Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science or Economics at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

 

 

 

 

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A candidate applying for Postgraduate Studies in the Federal University of Technology, Minna must have obtained five (5) Credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and GCE (‘O’ Level) or their equivalents including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings. No admission shall be made on the basis of any awaiting ‘O’ Level result and no exemption is made for admission into any programme.

Master Degree Programmes

1. A Minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree from Federal University of Technology, Minna or any other recognized University.

1. A Third Class Honours Degree with at least 3 years graduation experience in relevant fields may be considered. In some areas, passing a qualifying examination to be administered by the Department of the candidates, in consultation with the Postgraduate School, may be required.

iii.        Candidates with HND with a minimum of Lower Credit, OND Lower Credit and a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant field with, at least a minimum of Lower Credit and one year graduation experience may be considered.

iv         For avoidance of doubt, candidates with PASS grade at any level of Degree, PGD, HND and OND do not qualify for admission to the PhD/ Master/PGD Programmes. No Diploma candidate with CGPA less than 2.50 qualifies for admission into the Master Degree Programmes.

v          Where examination is required as in the case of (ii) and (iii) above, an examination fee of N2000.00 will be charged outside the cost of Postgraduate application forms.

1. In all cases of admission the final decision on qualified candidates rests with the Postgraduate School Board. Candidates with Science-based background are normally considered.

vii.       All Master Degree Programmes require course work components in addition to research work components. There is no exemption. A Thesis must be defended and submitted for a student to qualify and graduate.

PhD programme

 

1. i.         Candidates for admission for any of PhD Programme shall be Master Degree graduates of the Federal University of Technology, Minna or any other University recognized by the Senate or holders of equivalent qualifications acceptable to the University Senate.

3. A Master Degree holder applying for PhD Programme of the University must have maintained a weighted score average of 60% or a ‘B’ grade or a CGPA of 3.50 out of 5.00 in overall performance in the Master Degree programme.

iii.       Appropriate courses may be prescribed for candidates whose background is considered weak for the areas of specialization. This is done at the discretion of the School/Department within the approved general regulations/guidelines of the Postgraduate School.

           

 

DURATION OF PROGRAMMES

 

Master Degree Programmes

 

The Master Degree programmes are expected to last a minimum of Three Semesters for Full-time Students and there is no Part-time for Master’s Degree programmes. The maximum allowable periods of studies shall be Six Semesters for Full-time, subject to maintaining a CGPA of 2.50 in every Semester. Failure to meet this requirement will result in withdrawal from the programme.

PhD Programme

 

A Minimum of Six Semesters (Three (3) Academic Sessions) and maximum of Ten Semesters (Five (5) Academic Sessions) for Full-time Students.

A Minimum of Ten Semesters (Five (5) Academic Sessions) and maximum of Fourteen Semesters (Seven (7) Academic Sessions) for Part-time Students respectively.

1. a) Department of Computer Science

 

            Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (Full-time only)

 

Entry Requirement:

1. i) BSc or BTech/BEng from any recognised Institution with a minimum of Third Class Degree.

• HND in Computer Science from a recognized institution with a minimum of Lower Credit.

1. Minimum of Five ‘O’ Level Credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two relevant Science Subjects.

 

1. b) Department of Cyber Security

Postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security Science (Full-time only)

‘O’ Level Entry Requirement:

Minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two Science Subject.

 

1. c) Department of Library and Information Technology

           

Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Technology (Full-time only)

 

‘O’ Level Entry Requirement

 

1. Minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits in English Language, Mathematics, and any other (3) subjects. From Geography, Physics, Chemistry Biology, or Agricultural Science and Economics or Accounting or Government.
2. Third Class in B.Tech Library and Information Technology or Bachelor of Library and Information Science from any recognized University.

• Bachelor Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in any disciple

9. SCHOOL OF INFRASTRUCTURE, PROCESS ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
10. Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering

Postgraduate Diploma (Full-time only) in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering

            

Entry Requirements:

1. i) Minimum of five (5) ‘O’Level English Language, Mathematics. Physic, Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science.
2. ii) Candidate applying for this programme mush have in their First Degree a minimum of Third Class and in the case of HND a minimum of Upper Credit in Agricultural Engineering or any other equivalent Engineering qualification from recognised University or Polytechnic.
3. b) Department of Chemical Engineering

Postgraduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Full-time only)

Entry Requirements:

1. A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Chemical Engineering from a

Recognized Polytechnic or any recognized Institution with at least Lower Credit grade.

1. HND in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering from any recognized Institution.

• BSc or BEng with Third Class in Chemical Engineering.

1. Minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject.

1. c) Department of Civil Engineering

 

            Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering (Full-time only)

            Entry Requirements:

 

1. Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit in

Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering.

1. ii) BEng from a recognized University with a minimum of Third Class.
2. Minimum of Five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits as in b(iv) above

1. d) Department of Mechanical Engineering

Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Full-time only)

           

Entry Requirements:

 

1. Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit in Mechanical Engineering.
2. ii) BEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University with a minimum of Third Class.

iii)        Minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits as in b(iv) above

Entry Requirements:

1. Minimum of Third Class Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, Engineering and Environmental Sciences from recognized institutions.
2. Minimum of Lower Credit in Higher National Diploma (HND).

• Minimum of Five ‘O’ Level Credits including English Language, Mathematics and any of Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science plus any two Science or Social Science subjects.

11. CENTRE FOR HUMAN SETTLEMENTS AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT.

1. Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Urban Development (Full-time only).

Entry Requirements:

1. A Minimum of HND at Lower Credit in any related discipline or First Degree with a minimum of Third Class from Environmental/Social Sciences and Engineering background.
2. Minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits including English Language, Mathematics plus any other relevant subjects.
