Research Pitching Workshop / Faculty of Education and Arts / Events / The University of Newcastle, Australia

All Faculty of Education and Arts staff members are invited to this 2-hour workshop which will discuss how to develop a ‘pitch’ for a research idea using the template framework of the ‘slide deck’.

Why should you do it? How do you do it? And can the methodology of the classic ‘pitch deck’ beloved by start-up entrepreneurs provide a useful methodology for shaping a written grant proposal?

Academic staff do a lot of Pitching. Whether pitching to win funding from government, industry or philanthropic industries, or presenting to stakeholders outside of academia, there is a need to craft a succinct collection of key bites of information – the research pitch – in order to sell the idea to strangers and get buy-in at an emotional level.

Even when approaching colleagues to seed a new idea or seeking feedback from an expert in your field,  a methodical approach to pitching will increase your chances of hearing a ‘yes’.

A panel of three colleagues with experience pitching research ideas to government, industry and the cultural sector will share their expertise using a slide deck. Participants will have the opportunity to workshop a basic pitch idea into a slide deck and participate in a Q&A.
