Why We Desire for End Result?

End results are enticing. A lot of Money, girlfriend, beauty, winning… Why is it we are trapped by the end results even though nothing is end results, nothing is permanent.

If nothing is permanent, wouldn’t we be better of preparing ourselves for the inevitable? Preparing both mentally and physically. As Seneca put it “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”

Therefore if luck is created through preparation for the ability, wouldn’t we better of getting better at something meaningful.

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” – Anne Isabella Thackeray Ritchie Mrs. Dymond (1885)

Fishing metaphor might, or might not be accurate – who knows. However, when it comes to getting an end result versus learning the Skill, the proverb hits a spot. Would we rather have a relationship or skills to build great relationships? Would we rather have money than ability to create all the wealth we need? Would we rather have a trophy or the habits of a champion?

Stop desiring and obsessing over end results. Instead focus on building your skills to become better at what brings those desired end results.
