Matching clothes, eating off of the same plate and Eskimo kisses all make me want to set my eyelashes on fire. Maybe I am a potential cat owner in the making, but the idea that one person is incomplete before they find their other half just unsettles my stomach. In a bid to join in on the Valentine’s Day hoo-haw, here are 6 Iconic relationships that make me feel like I might be wrong. MIGHT.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono

This is one of the most controversial relationships of the late 60s and 70s, and perhaps of all time. The couple was plagued with rumours, media attention and trolling before it was a thing. They met in a London gallery in 1966. Shortly afterwards, they both left their previous partners and wed each other. For the wedding, Yoko wore a white mini skirt and huge hat whilst John wore a matching milk bottle white blazer. A year later, The Beatles split up. Despite many protests from the band members themselves, many still believe Yoko to be the reason for the band’s untimely end. But John and Yoko were inseparable.

John was once asked why he never left Yoko’s side. His reply was simply, “But I can be alone without Yoko, but I just have no wish to be. There’s no reason on earth why I should be alone without Yoko”.

Jim Morrison & Pamela Courson

Jim and Pam’s love story is lesser known but still abundantly heartwarming (or stomach-wrenching if you have no soul like me). Although they never married, Pamela was Jim’s muse, cosmic mate and queen. The couple were reported to have had a turbulent relationship. They both played away but always returned to each other, as if tied together by fate. After Pamela found Jim dead in their Parisian bathtub, she discovered that he had left everything to her. It was only three short years later that Pamela suffered the same fate at the age of 27 and died of a heroin overdose. It was said that she was never the same after Jim died.

Keith Richards & Anita Pallenberg

If heroin chic is an actual thing, then these two might as well be the definition. Their relationship was notorious for many reasons. Actress Anita Pallenberg was originally with another Rolling Stone- Brian Jones. But after a thunderous and violent two years, Anita left Brian and ran away with Keith Richards. They began a long relationship together which involved a lot of drugs, sex and Mick Jagger. Anita also inspired the band in many ways, especially on Keith Richard’s song ‘Gimme Shelter’. She was a wild storm, that even the baddest man in rock couldn’t tame.

Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne

Still going strong after 500 years of marriage and multiple affairs. The pair even fancied themself enough to let the general public peer into their lives. Whether you enjoy seeing an ageing rock star picking up dog poo is entirely your choice, I don’t judge. But I cannot deny that the show made Ozzy and Sharon iconic. They met when Sharon was just 18. Her father was managing Black Sabbath and, in 1979, sacked the wild frontman. Sharon had grown fond for Ozzy and began managing Ozzy herself and still does to this day. As well as getting drunk on reality TV.

Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham

Yeah, sure, they’ve split up now. But does that make the couple less iconic? Their relationship break down inspired one of the best albums of all time – Rumours. While Lindsey wrote about ‘Going Your Own Way’, Stevie wrote about ‘Dreams’. Needless to say, the couple spiralled into turmoil, and Stevie found herself addicted to cocaine. Despite their relationship continuing to be tense, the pair still perform together for the original Fleetwood Mac line up.

Sid Vicious & Nancy Spungen

Sid and Nancy are often cited as the punk Romeo & Juliette for their tragic and mysterious demise. The strong, loud, New York prostitute found the angsty, not-so-bright, British Punk in 1977. Nancy quickly became his lover and enabler. Sid developed an addiction to heroin, infamously documented in a video interview where Sid struggled to stay awake. One night in the Chelsea Hotel, Sid awoke to find Nancy dead with a stab wound to the stomach. A couple of months later, Sid died of an heroin overdose leaving behind a lot of unanswered questions and a story that would be retold time and time again.
