Mornington Peninsula Food Tour – Part II

Day two of our adventure was a late start after a big brunch at home. Our first stop was Bluestone Lane Vineyard. We were the first through the door and there was a beautifully warm fire going in the corner. Tastings here were free of charge and our party loved the wines making some significant purchases from the Cellar Door.

We soon moved onto one of my favourites, the Red Hill Brewery. Red Hill brews some of my favourite beers and today they were accompanied by lunch from Redgum BBQ‘s Pit Boys. The Food was delicious but not sure it was worth the money for the portions we got. We washed down the food with a selection of beers – mine was the magnificent Imperial Stout.

After lunch, we headed over to the Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove for a stroll around the grounds before doing a tasting at the cellar door. Disappointingly, we were forced to buy a $10 tasting glass as it was the Winter Wine Weekend and there was no refund offered when we bought wines (which is usually the case here). The cellar door is beautiful, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the food served in the restaurant looked delicious.

Our last stop for the day was one of the most fun of weekend. Main Ridge Dairy is a farmhouse cheese factory and goat dairy in Main Ridge. Unfortunately for us, they had been very busy and by the time we arrived at 4.30pm, most of the cheese was sold out. But the super service from the ladies behind the counter more than made up for it! They quickly knocked up a discounted tasting platter for our group which was served with a selection of wines and beers to compliment it. We also bought some locally produced fudge and and some excellent goat’s cheese to take home.

This was an amazing experience with a fabulous group of friends. I would recommend a Mornington Peninsula Food Tour to any food, wine or beer nerds like myself as there is a huge variety of produce to try. As they say in the classics, “Just Do It!”
