We Serve What We Grow: The LaLiT Chandigarh

“When you have the best and the tastiest ingredients, you can cook very simply and the food will be extraordinary because it tastes like what it is.”

– Alice Waters, American Chef

That is exactly what we at The Lalit believe in and that is why we emphasise on the quality of the ingredients used in our dishes. To make sure that the ingredients are all fresh and organically grown, we serve what we grow in our organic farms across the various regions in India.

Researches reveal that humans tend to consume food through all the senses even before actually eating it. The way the food looks, smells and feels matters a lot to be finally concluded as tasty. The organically grown vegetables, fruits and spices we use make sure that the dishes served at The Lalit have the original colours, fragrance, texture and taste that they are meant to have.

Apart from all these factors, there is one more dimension added to the Organic food at The LaLiT Chandigarh. The additional dimension is of Love and compassion, which is added to the food crops when they are grown by Chef Suriya. Yes, an expert chef transforms into a farmer, who takes care of his crops like a father. His love for the crops can be seen when he dedicates 3 -4 hours, everyday to the fields without fail.

One can see the specimens of his love and hard work in the small pots which have one of his plants and are displayed on the buffet counters every day. In case the cute plants make you eager to see the rest of the crops, you will never hear a ‘No’ from Chef Suriya as an answer. He would not only take you there but would also walk you through the gardens himself so that you don’t miss any of the beautiful details.

“I love to spend time in these gardens. I have found my second love after cooking in growing these lovely crops. I love to cook with the self grown and fresh ingredients because I know the final dish would taste absolutely the way I wish them to. I sincerely thank The Lalit to let me discover and follow my both the passions,” says Chef Suriya.

That is what happens when you work at The Lalit. You can explore new things and then work becomes fun. While promoting ‘Healthy eating, healthy living’ we also encourage ‘Do what you love and you will love what you do.’
