Spotlight on Bayswater Neighbourhood’s Facilities

Bordering the north of Kensington Gardens and lying just 2.5 miles west-north-west of Charing Cross, Bayswater is an area in the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is one of the most cosmopolitan areas of London and Bayswater neighbourhood is 2.5 miles west of the city centre between Notting Hill and Paddington. It is a well-connected area in central London and the City of Westminster borough and as such it is a popular area to stay and to reach other places to work easily. Staying here offers a really unique and safe experience. The area has white stucco buildings of 4 or 5 stories high surrounded by square gardens, along with a multi-ethnic neighbourhood. It has had an illustrious past and with its rebirth, it has helped to revive the Bayswater area. The renovated building’s colonnade façade is now dominating Queensway. Inside, you can find the centrepiece of the main atrium which is lined with an extensive range of shops. However, there have been a few changes such as the disappearance of the rooftop golf course that has given way to a car park and the in-house theatre becoming a more modern multiplex cinema. However, despite its modernisation, Whiteley’s is still blessed with its old-time charm. The shopping centre is full to the brim with more than 70 shops that offer everything from the latest fashions to herbal remedies. There is even a TV studio upstairs that produces Channel 5. The ground floor has been transformed into a ‘foodstore’ that sells fresh fish, meat, dry goods, wine and meat from the shopping centre’s own farm. A new store, Victory Vintage, has been added this year on the first floor opposite GAP. Other stores include branches of clothing stores Zara and French Connection and ‘The Real China’. The other shops and places to eat include Marks & Spencer, HMV, Starbucks and a sushi bar. An Odeon cinema and bowling alley are also located here.

They can also indulge in many leisure activities such as walking and jogging, and swimming and boating in Serpentine Lake, horse riding, cycling, having a picnic and visiting a few attractions.

Cultural Offerings and Attractions: There are many attractions located in these green areas such as Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Playground,  Peter Pan statue, Serpentine Galleries, Serpentine Solar and Speakers’ Corner. Moreover, many of London’s cultural attractions such as museums, galleries and monuments are also located close by such as Serpentine Galleries that offers modern and contemporary art and the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum for people with a scientific bent of mind who can see the lab where Fleming discovered Penicillin. However, the main attraction is Kensington Palace, where Queen Victoria was born and lived and Princess Diana stayed. Visitors can take a tour of the palace and get an idea of how the royalty lives. It has been a residence of the British Royal family ever since the 17th century and presently, the occupants are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Moreover, sidewalk-art is held on Bayswater Road every Sunday when pedestrians are treated to the creations of more than 150 artists and craftspeople.

Library: The study spots in Bayswater include the Paddington Library where students can study quietly for their exams. Bayswater neighbourhood is just a short walking distance away from the library that also offers free Wi-Fi. A number of cosy cafes are also located close by for people to relax and have snacks and tea/coffee.

Transportation: Bayswater is well-connected to the rest of London through the tube stations of Queensway (Circle and District Line), Bayswater and Lancaster Gate (Central Line), apart from bus connections. Moreover, Paddington Station is very close being just across its boundaries and it offers easy connectivity to many places in London, particularly to Heathrow Airport which can be reached in 15 minutes via the Heathrow Express. It is one London’s main train and tube stations (Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines).
