On the eve of one of the main Orthodox holidays of spring, many Ukrainians make pilgrimage to holy places. This year, Easter by the Gregorian calendar falls on April 16. That’s why there is still time to choose a temple for visiting in Ukraine.

Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

The popular name of this church is the “drunken” church. The whole point is in a special architectural structure – the church is built on the model of the Romanian cathedrals. Residents of the city are already accustomed to the unusual domes of the temple, but tourists do not cease to be surprised by the external and internal decoration of the building. There are few windows in the church, and on two sides have also two large balconies: in one of them there is a separate iconostasis, in the second there is a parish library.

This design is quite symbolic, the architects seem to remind us: we are in the terrestrial world, where it is not quite light, but we are going to move to another world where there is a lot of light. The temple is relatively young – it has less then 100 years old.
