St. Lawrence’s Church is a monument of architecture and culture located in the town of Zhovkva in the Lviv region, 25 kilometers north of Lviv and 35 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Polish border.

The church was built in 1606-1618. The founder of Zhovkva, the Polish military leader Stanislaw Zolkiewski, his wife and son were buried here. Zhovkva on Google Maps. Photos by: Maxim Ritus.

According to the number and significance of the burials of prominent figures of the Polish state, this church is often called “Little Wawel”, in contrast to the royal castle Wawel, which is located in Krakow.

This church is considered the largest, most beautiful and richest building of Zhovkva. Its bell tower is called the “Little Leaning Tower of Pisa”, because it is slightly inclined.
