Aston Villa Versus Arsenal

Aston Villa play host to Arsenal on the Saturday before Christmas in what promises to be a fascinating encounter. Despite their poor start to the season following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the summer, Arsenal are still lying fourth in the table half way through the year thanks to the recent scintillating from of Robin van Persie along with the fact that Arsenal’s summer signings have settled in quickly and have had an immediate impact. Petr Mertersacker has been employing his German organization skills to marshal the defence and his six feet and six inches to reduce Arsenal’s vulnerability from set-pieces while Gervinho has also been getting more and more dangerous cutting in on his right foot from the left wing in a manner reminiscent of Lionel Messi or David Silva cutting in from the right on the left feet. Mikel Arteta has also been a revelation since his £10 million move from Everton on the last day of the transfer window – he’s already got three goals in Arsenal colours and has also been responsible for almost a third of the team’s assists.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, have been struggling so far this season and I would be surprised if they were take any points from this fixture despite the fact that they are at home. This is because they lost Ashley Young and Stuart Downing in the summer to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively and any team is going to struggle if they lose their two most creative players at the same time. Alex McLeish signed Charles N’Zogbia in the summer to play on the right wing but the French International has yet to show the kind of form that would mean the two departed midfielders weren’t missed and Villa have consequently been struggling for creativity in central midfield. The signing of Shay Given in goal and the form of Richard Dunne in central defence has meant that they haven’t been shipping goals, but Darren bent cannot score if he is not given chances – he is a striker rather than a forward- and if they don’t develop some possibilities of creating goal scorning opportunities soon, they’re going to struggle over the entire season.

If you are thinking of going to watch this game in Birmingham, then I would suggest that you have a look at the deals on offer by hotels in Birmingham star city. This is because hotels in Birmingham star city frequently offer deals whereby you can save money on both your accommodation and your tickets to the match by purchasing both in a bundle. You can get discounts of up to twenty per cent on your accommodation by buying it online, in plenty of time and as part of a deal that includes your entrance into the Villa Park to watch Aston Villa versus Arsenal, so make sure that you have a look at the deals that are available on the internet before making either purchase if this is your plan.
