Overview of The Jakarta fair


In order to enliven the 2009 Jakarta Fair Kemayoran (JFK) and to entertain the visitors, the organizing committee has prepared a number of exciting programs. This year is the 42th anniversary of the Jakarta Fair. One of these programs is the 2009 Jakarta Fair Carnival which will be held at the 2009 JFK Arena. This year`s exhibitors will take part in the annual event. The contestants of the competition include enterprises, local governments, sponsors, and art studios that will showcase cultural performances such as ondel - ondel and barongsai. The Jakarta Fair organizing committee is giving away attractive prizes such as trophy, cash money, placates for three winners.



The carnival will start at the Gambir Expo Stage and then head to the Open Space, passing in front of the D and A Hall before turning to the front of the Gedung Pusat Niaga (GPN) and then march to the front of the B and C Hall. After that, they proceed to the Main Stage and then return to the Gambir Expo.

This Carnival starts on the second week of the Jakarta Fair on every Monday an Wednesday from 16.30 until 17.30. Treat your family to this grand event.

Before there was Jakarta Fair, during the colonial time, there were many night markets scattered around the city. The Dutch administration, at that time, brought these markets together to one place and called it Pasar Gambir or Gambir Market. Decades later, then Governor Ali Sadikin (Bang Ali) moved this night market to Monas. After that, Bang Ali changed the name of Pasar Gambir to Djakarta Fair. This was join collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, which was under the lead of Syamsudin Mangan.

Djakarta Fair 1968
The first Djakarta fair was held in the Monas area on June 5th until July 18th, 1968. It was opened by the late then President Soeharto. It was considered a success as it was able to attract 1.4 million visitors.

One of the things that differentiate the Djakarta Fair and the night markets at that time was the fact that it was authorized by the local government through the law Perda no. 8 Year 1968. The law states that the Djakarta Fair was an annual event which was held to celebrate the capital city`s anniversary on June 22th. DKI Jakarta`s local government also formed a foundation that organized the fair and appointed Pekan Raja Jakarta as the official body that organized the Jakarta Fair.

Jakarta fair Now
Throughout the years the Jakarta Fair has shown improvements not only in terms of revenue or number visitors but also in terms of number of participants and variety of products offered. The buyers do not only come from Indonesia but also from abroad. Since 2004 up to now, foreign participants have been taking part in the exhibition. They come from neighboring Asian countries such as Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, and also countries from the Middle East such as Iran, Iraq as well as European countries like France and The Netherlands.

Until 1992 the Jakarta Fair was held on a 7 hectares land in the Monas area. In 1993 the fair was moved to the Kemayoran area, where it is 4.4 hectares larger than the previous arena. It has been there ever since. The size gives enough space for the increasing exhibitors and buyers to interact well. It also includes an amusement ground.

On the 2004, PT Jakarta International Expo took over the management of the Jakarta Fair. For the last six years, value of revenue, numbers of visitors and participants have shown a significant increase.
