Experience the Majestic Sights of Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the land of Rajputana history and culture. Most well-known for its numerous royal palaces and grand forts, the state attracts tourists from around the world. From the sand dunes of Jaisalmer to the scenic beauty of Mount Abu to the enthralling Camel Fair in Pushkar, Rajasthan is a great destination for travel.

Tourists who like to explore the roads less traveled, Rajasthan also has some unique sights which cannot be found anywhere else. Pushkar, a small holy town, is the only place in India that has a Temple dedicated to Lord Brahma. One of the leading ropeway construction companies in India, Damodar Ropeways offers an exciting ropeway ride up to the Savitri Mata Temple in Pushkar. Tourists can also enjoy adventure activities like parasailing or hot air balloon ride here in cities like Jaislamer or Jodhpur.

Jaipur

Popularly known as the Pink City, Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan. The city was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1727, and has been named after the late King of Amer. Major tourist attractions of Jaipur include the Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jal Mahal, and the Jantar Mantar Observatory.

The Amber Fort and Palace, more popularly known as the Amer Fort, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overlooking the Maota Lake, the fort is located on top of a hill and built with red sandstone and marble. The palace consists of the Diwan-e-Aam, the Diwan-e-Khaas, the Sheesh Mahal and the Sukh Niwas. The Amer Palace served as the royal residence of Rajput Maharajas and their families. It is best known for its artistic representation of Hindu elements. The entire fort, especially rooms like the Sheesh Mahal, is a magnificent sight to see.

Jaisalmer

Built in the heart of Thar desert, Jaisalmer is a city known for its sand dunes and the spectacular Jaisalmer Fort. The city is fondly known as the Golden City, as the whole town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone. The erstwhile fort sits like a crown atop the city. In addition to the Jaisalmer Fort, other chief attractions include the Sand Dunes and the abandoned Kuldhara Village.

The Jaisalmer Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. More than 800 years old, the structure is made of yellow sandstone. The fort takes on a yellow hue under the sun rays and turns a beautiful honey gold color at sunset. Hence, locals often call the fort “Sonar Qila” meaning Golden Fort. The Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest forts in the world. It is believed to be one of the very few (perhaps the only) “living forts” in the world, with a few thousand families living in the fort even today.

Jodhpur

Jodhpur used to be the capital of the then ‘Marwar’ kingdom. The city is famous for its many forts, palaces and temples. The most famous attractions in Jodhpur are the Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mandore Gardens, and some more sights. The neighborhood around Mehrangarh Fort is surrounded by blue houses. This was a custom followed in the historic times to signify that the blue houses belonged to the Hindus (the highest caste). Because of this, Jodhpur is also referred to as the Blue City.

The Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts in India, and was considered as impenetrable because of its imposing thick walls. This 15th century fort has now been converted to a museum displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins. Tourists can witness centuries old cannons kept inside the fort. The fort also offers an awesome panoramic view of the blue city beneath.
