Designing for Kauai: Interior Design Tips

Tags: kauai color adds

With its vast expanses of undisturbed natural beauty, it’s easy to see why Kauai is called the Garden Isle. Tropical rainforests, dramatic cliffs and stunning waterfalls create some of Hawaii’s most beautiful scenery. The vibrant colors found in the Hawaiian Island’s natural vistas help provide inspiration for CIH Design’s rich and colorful interior designs. Interior design for Kauai is one of our favorite geographical areas to design.

CIH designer Shelly David loves to pull cues from the outdoors when designing stunning Kauai interiors.  The lush emerald forests, clear turquoise waters and beautiful blue skies make a wonderful jumping off point for bright and bold color palettes.  The goal is to carry the beauty of the Hawaiian landscapes right into your home, creating a relaxing, island escape.

Our design team has the experience necessary to create gorgeous interiors for your Poipu, Kileaua, Haena, Kukui Ula or Princeville home. Whether you’re looking for complete turnkey services that cover every detail from initial design to final installation, or a custom designed room for your Kauai home, CIH Design has the skills and resources to bring your dream to fruition.

Island Designs

This open and airy living room draws the eye across the room by picking up the bright blue and turquoise tones of the ocean and sky with the sofa and glass accent pieces. The neutral tones of the chairs and drapes help balance the vivid blue of the sofa. The combination of soft, plush seating and smooth, reflective surfaces creates texture and Adds interest to the room.

A minimalistic kitchen with a neutral color palette creates a calming space to prepare a meal. The dark green vase matches the emerald tones of the nearby plant and adds a pop of color to the room.  The wood cupboards and barn-board wallpaper create natural contrast against the metallic backsplash and white quartz countertops.

This masculine bedroom takes texture to a whole new level. Each element in the room adds another layer to stimulate the senses. The marble lamp base, metallic picture frame and glass end tables are softened by the velvet chair, plush throw pillows and woven throw.

But it’s the bold statement walls that really elevate the look of this room. The rock wall at the head of the bed adds a rough, solid texture. While the 3D relief wall behind the TV provides contrast and a feeling of smooth, flowing movement.

The color palette for this room draws from the artwork over the bed. The dark blue chair and pillows adds color to the browns and greys without being overly bright. This design also mimics features of the outdoors. The textured walls evoke mountains and ocean and the blue accents add a hint of sky and water.
