The No-Nos of Logo Designing

We always talk about what you should do when it comes to logo design, but no one ever talks about what you should not do. However, that’s all going to change with this post today! Check out some of the biggest errors that designers and businesses do when it comes to designing a logo and what you should avoid at all costs!

  • Don’t Use Too Many Colors – This is probably the biggest blunder that designers tend to make in their excitement to make the logo stand out. But remember, that using 1 or 2 colors in a logo design will attract the audience, 3 are even okay but if are using more than that, then you really need to think again!
  • Don’t Use Clichés In Your Design – We cannot even begin to tell you how many designers do this! Okay we get it, you are a dentist but could you have not come up with any other visual design for your logo than a molar design? Or using the ever present stars and stripe to reflect your patriotism. Our advice? Don’t go for these clichéd visuals and opt for something that will make you stand apart from the rest.
  • Don’t Mess With The Fonts – Have a font that you absolutely love and want to use it everywhere and on everything? Don’t! Fonts have different characteristics, so while they will work perfectly on one medium or design, it’s not necessary that it’s going to look good across all mediums – and a thing to remember is that your logo is your marketing tool which will used across all marketing mediums. Therefore, when it comes to font selection, be careful with your selection.
  • Don’t Rely On Trends – That will be just bad because trends tend to change with time and businesses need consistency to show to their customers that they are reliable. But a design that is too trendy would require you to keep changing your logo which will cast a somewhat negative impression on your consumers.
  • Don’t Use Images – Yes, believe it or not, designers do commit this blunder and it’s a big one actually. See with images being made up of pixels, when you increase or decrease the size of the image, these pixels tend to get distorted which results in the loss of quality of the overall image. And since logos are used on almost marketing material of the business, you have to ensure that such a blunder does not happen.
  • Don’t Even Think About Clipart – Just don’t – that is if you want to have full copyrights over your logo. Since clipart tend to be community art, you are not able to copyright it and others can also use the same clipart in their designs, making you lose out on the originality factor.
  • Don’t Mess With Special Effects – Using effects such as shadows and special effects would just restrain you from using it for different purposes. You don’t want to have to constantly change, modify and edit your logo each time you use it on something – it’s too much of a hassle!
