I cannot think what I would do with a really Expensive Pen. I’d be worried I’d lose it. I probably would lose it. I certainly wouldn’t want to write with it.

Now, look at this. This is not just any pen. This pen costs nearly one and a half million dollars.


This is supposed to be the most expensive pen in the world. It’s a bling-tastic 30 carat of status
symbol. The problem is, you just couldn’t let anyone use it. Or certainly not without pointing out that your pen cost more to build than a house. Or several houses. For a very small amount of carbon, it is a very sizable amount of money.

The Aurora Diamante contains over 30 carats of De Beers’s diamonds on a solid platinum barrel.
It has a two-tone, rhodium-treated, 18KT solid gold nib and is personalized with a coat of arms,
signature or portrait.

I’ve been trying to think what you could ever justify using this pen for if you were to buy one. You’d be
lucky. There is one, yes, just one, manufactured every year. I say manufactured, but for this price, I
would want it to be handcrafted by pixies riding unicorns. You’d never believe times were hard when pens like this are being made.

Ok, I’ll admit it, it is beautiful. A fantastic investment piece, an heirloom, a toy for the noveau riche. But
I think I’ll stick to a ballpoint. I can write my shopping list with no fear of being mugged.
