Give me a pencil, give me a paintbrush,
I’ll draw my desires and my fears in a rush,
I’ll sketch up a home, a castle, a town,
A kingdom of madness and a fool’s crown.
Give me guitars, give me their strings,
Let me play on ‘til I can’t feel a thing.
I’ll sing about dreaming of a soul who would stay
And I’ll sing about waking up breathless each day.
Give me some paper, give me a pen,
I’ll let my rhymes write me every now and then;
For when the words fail me or die in my throat,
You’ll find me on the edge of this poem I wrote.
