The Breakdown

B A Paris has done it again with her second novel. Her follow up to her debut novel, Behind Closed Doors, is absolutely fantastic. It seems to start out a little slowly, jump the rails and slows down again but I think it is just a plot device because you still have trouble putting the book down. Paris gets into your mind and worms around and then before you know it you are at the point on no return and your heart is racing, she is clearly a master of the Psychological Thriller Genre.

The Breakdown is a clever title and suits the book well. The term breakdown can have several connotations and more than one use of the term is eluded to throughout the book. Your car breaks down, your health can breakdown, a theory can be broken down and of coarse given this is a psychological thriller a mind can breakdown.

Cass Anderson lives in a quaint english town in a traditional english cottage with beautiful gardens with her new husband, life couldn’t be more perfect. Then one night during a storm she took the short cut home through a heavily wooded area and becomes wrapped up in an unexpected crime. She passes a car with a woman inside that is found dead the next morning. Did the murderer see her? Or does the murderer think she saw him? Could Cass have helpped her?

Overcome by guilt Cass’ life begins to orbit the murder and the stress is almost too much to bear when she starts receiving menacing phone calls. Her husband thinks she is loosing her grip on reality as she becomes more and more paranoid that the killer is now after her.

Then as luck, or un-luck, would have it the answer to everything falls right into her hands. Answers that are way too close to home than she I’m ever thought, and much closer than she realizes.

I’m not a fan of horror but I have found that the psychological thriller genre is clearly a favorite of mine. So is you like to get your heart pounding but not scared to death is a great genre. If this is your genre, then my little booklings, THIS is your next read and B A Paris should be at the top of your list.

An astounding 4.5 stars for The Breakdown!

I received a review copy of this title from Netgalley for an honest review.
