Last

Jessa has had it, this is the last time she let’s a man dictate her life. Alex was damaged deeply by his last relationship. When they find each other things move fast and though they were both hurt by their firsts will they last to be each others…Last.

Last it the debut novel of Author J. L. Davis. I’m not going to fluff it up just to save some hurt feelings. I know if I were in her shoes I wouldn’t want to hear negative stuff about my baby, but to be fair the review process let’s authors know what their strengths are and what they need to work on. I am by no means an author or editor and I won’t nit pick likje an editor, not my job. Being an author, so I’ve heard, is a continual learning process. It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there and I cash honestly say that I could probably never do that. So congratulations to J. L. Davis for putting yourself and your baby out there! A very admirable effort on Last.

There was one plot hole in the time line that bugged me but I might have miss read something. I have two issues with Last. The first is the first person point of view. I don’t have a problem with first person but this seemed almost too first person. I’m not sure how to explain that really. Maybe there was too much “I” or “we”?

My second issue would have to be Character development. I know given that this is a romance novel that, duh, romance is up front and center. But for a couple who didn’t just hook up then decide on a relationship, things developed a bit too quickly. They went from strangers to in love in a matter of a blink of an eye. I had hoped that Jessa, the main character, given the opening situation, would develop into a strong independent woman before diving into a relationship. Though in the end she did develop a bit of character strength and maturity even if her language seemed a bit immature, but we all seemed to revert to that with our best friends sometimes (right be-och! ).

The story line and flow, though it was fast, was good. Jessa, a young woman who in one moment lost so much, finds out how to make her dreams come true. She is introduced to Alex, a broken man, who is afraid to move forward and love. The two quickly seem to be a match made in heaven. It is a relatively short, just over 200 pages, sweet and sexy romp. And I mean SEXY! technically this would be classified as erotic romance, and it surely fits the bill.

So, again, congratulations on the release of your first novel J. L. Davis and I hope to see more from you in the future.

Out of 5 stars, keeping in mind that this is a debut novel from a debut author, I believe it would be a fair 3.

So my little booklings is you wanna get all hot, bothered and wet and want to discover new talent, dive into Last!
