UNICEF has launched a fund-raising project that asks people to lend their computers' graphics cards to Mine cryptocurrencies, in an effort to raise funds for the 13.5 million people in the war-torn Syria.

In a hope to appeal young people's desire to do social good, UNICEF turns people's graphic cards into a humanitarian tool called 'Game Chaingers', by putting solidarity on the blockchain.

"To participate in this operation, all you need to do is to install Claymore, a mining software,” the Game Chaingers website reads (chaingers.io). “You will be able to start or stop mining when you want, and generate Ethereum right in UNICEF’s electronic wallet.”

"Install the software Claymore and launch it to mine whenever you want, and without lifting a finger or spending a euro you will generate funds right into UNICEF's wallet," said the charity on its website.

Back in October 2017, UNICEF's Innovation Unit co-founder Christopher Fabian said that UNICEF Ventures will not shy away from experimenting with the technology.

“If we are in a place to look at designing our own token, look at others to help design theirs in a way that we can be a part of, and potentially also have a crypto-denominated investment fund, those would all be things that would be on our roadmap for the near future,” said Fabian.

Until March 31st, 2018, the more participants there are, the more coins it can mine, the more UNICEF can donate to help children in Syria.

Netizens who want to contribute to this initiative, but lack the computing power, can also help with direct donations. UNICEF has posted the address to its Ethereum donation wallet on the official Game Chaingers website.
