2016 Mazda CX-3 earns prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating

There are many factors when buying a new car.

“Does it have the latest technology?”
“Is it comfortable?”
“Do I look good driving it?”

One of the more important aspects to pay attention to, however, is safety. What new features does it have, and what are the crash test ratings. One popular ride recently earned the prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating, and it was the 2016 Mazda CX-3 subcompact crossover.

A Top Safety Pick+ rating is reserve only for the best of the best. To earn it, a vehicle must receive a rating of ‘good’ (highest) 5 categories, including the small-overlap crash test. An ‘advanced’ rating must also be achieved in available collision-prevention technologies.

IIHS points out that 25-percent of traffic fatalities occur in small-overlap crashes, so additional emphasis is put on that test, making it more difficult for vehicles to earn the ‘plus’ rating. Safety features available in the Mazda CX-3 include Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Adaptive Front-lighting System, Active Driving Display and daytime running lights and tail lights.

The all-new compact crossover has received glowing reviews since driving on the scene late last year. The upcoming 2017 CX-3 includes a 146-hp SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine and six-speed auto transmission. FWD-equipped models pull in a fuel efficiency rating of 29/34, with i-ACTIV AWD earning a respectable 27/32. All CX-3s are equipped with a backup camera, push-button start and remote keyless entry.

The MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment suite, which can be found in all trims, includes a 7-in touchscreen that is paired with a control knob and Bluetooth. The suite keeps drivers connected with phone controls, radio and navigation. The Grand Touring i-ACTIVSENSE model includes such features as Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart City Brake Support, Smart Brake Support, High Beam Control System, Lane Departure Warning System, rain-sensing wipers and auto on/off headlights.
