Growth of the Tablet PCs is rising all across the globe, but market is still not mature. However, same can't be said about the new Apple Ipad 3, which is currently enjoying the status of “leader” in terms of sales. With tech giants following the trail of iPad, like Samsung Galaxy Tab and Asus Transformer Prime, the winner of the battle between iPad or android tablet is yet to be identified.
After reviewing the top tablet PCs on various parameters, my deduction is to avoid the comparison based on Android and iOS devices, as both that would be highly subjective. Therefore, I thought of staying on to the points related to the design and ergonomics.
Starting with Apple, the new iPad 3 appears more like its predecessor. With one button on the front panel, the backside of the device adorns only an Apple logo and some obligatory FCC text. The impeccable looks of the iPad states that according to Apple's ideology people choose luxury compared to fun.
The ASUS Transformer Prime is also seamless and have a pleasing built, but design the is not as cohesive. The device uses two thin frames to cover edges, which is not so catchy. Moreover, the company has no logo, and the only way to identify the brand is four chrome letters.
The flawless build quality of iPad offers exceptionally tight tolerance and the same is applicable in the design of other Apple devices like iPod tablet PC. However, even if Prime doesn't delivers that seamless quality, there is nothing wrong in having gaps in-between its materials. With the two devices being poles apart in terms of size, weight and material, both adorns flat slabs.
As per the display format, the ASUS device boasts a 16:9 widescreen panel, while the Apple uses an old-fashioned 4:3 format. However, with old format making the device easy to hold, the Android tablet PC is not comfortable when held width-wise.
Even while Apple having higher points than ASUS, the new ipad tablet doesn't win by huge margin. In terms of ergonomics, it is hard to differentiate unless you put both the tablet PCs side by side. But if other factors are also taken in consideration(software/hardware), then with loads of advancements like faster graphics, 4G wireless options, a better camera, and a gorgeous high-resolution screen, the iPad 3 does stands ahead.
