DHS Ends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti
Foreign nationals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are given temporary permission to live and work in the U.S. when their home country is unsafe due to natural disasters, armed conflict, or other emergency situations.
Haitians were given TPS following the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has terminated TPS for Haiti as of July 2019. Those previously authorized to work in the U.S. under TPS will be required to reapply for authorized employment status beginning in January 2018.
