It is that time of the year again.  When bikers deck our their Hogs with holiday cheer.  We see red and green lights, bells, tinsel and even ornaments adorning Harley Davidson bikes across the country.  Besides the decorative bikes, however, the Harley hordes are spreading holiday cheer to those who cannot afford to have a Harley.  In countries all across the US the local Harley stores work in conjunction with local groups to collect toys and food and clothing for the less fortunate.

In Glendale, California, for example, there were hundreds of Harley Davidson motorcycle riders converging on the streets of skid row in downtown Los Angeles.  They collected hundreds of toys and shared them with the less fortunate.  It was a sight to see these bikes decked out with reindeer antlers, sleigh decorations and mounted with so many Santas.  Along with the local Harley dealer, they held a great street party with three blocks of tables.  This tradition has gone on for 25 years.  

This toy drive began in 1988 with a cooperation between Fred Jordan and Harley Davidson of Glendale.  Although Fred is no longer alive, the bike parade of joy and presents still bears the name of its founder.  Each year there are more and more people participating.  There is never, however, a shortage of youngsters that are in need, so it can get bigger and bigger without the fear of having too many toys for too few children.

So when you see those Harley Davidson decals or a Harley Davidson license plate, don't be thinking thug or criminal.  You may be looking at someone who spends their spare time being Santa to a group of kids that aren't as well off as you are.
