KVH Industries Inc. said Wednesday that it will buy software company Virtek Communications AS for $6.5 million as a complement to its satellite communication services.
KVH CEO Martin Kits van Heyningen said in a statement that the acquisition will strengthen the company's position in the maritime broadband market.
Virtek, based in Norway, provides software used by commercial fleets and vessel owners.
The acquisition is to close in the next few weeks.
Shares of KVH Industries added 3 cents to $12.69 in midday trading.
