Capital Cooling recently worked with the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce for their #getajob programme.

A joint initiative between West Lothian Chamber of Commerce, West Lothian College, the Department for Work and Pensions and JobCentre Plus #getajob is a new initiative to support 18-24 year old’s in developing the skills necessary to succeed in interviews and secure employment.

The programme is the brainchild of Chief Executive of West Lothian Chamber of Commerce, Linda Scott, who says:

“The Chamber feels that projects such as #getajob are vital to supporting West Lothian’s workforce and in turn benefiting the business community as a whole.”

“There are many schemes out there helping young people to get work placements in business, but this is unique by bringing our membership on board to help enhance the young people’s engagement with real employers offering practical helping them develop their personal brand, and then converting this to a real offer of employment.”

To support the programme Capital Cooling welcomed three young job seekers to the business for 2 days to gain real world experience of the working environment. All three participants took part in mock interviews with department heads and received a taster session in multiple departments allowing them to get a feel for the sort of role they would like to progress into.

All three participants excelled in their time at Capital, so much so that one of them has been offered a full time position.

We had 3 unemployed young people assigned to us for two days and they all turned up on time, presentable and keen to learn. They performed well at ‘mock-interview’ and completed a number of tasks with professionalism. We recognise the importance of supporting the local community and young people who have little or no experience of a working environment. A CV application alone cannot always portray the circumstance’s surrounding a person’s lack of work history or their enthusiasm and attitude to work and learn, and being able to meet and experience these people first hand is invaluable.

We are thrilled to have offered one person on the programme a full time employment contract, which directly benefits Capital Cooling, DWP, JobCente Plus, and most importantly the individual.”

Capital Cooling are very happy to be involved in this program and as a previous winner of the Best Business award at the West Lothian Chamber awards we are excited to be able to give something back to the local community.
