Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR/HVAC) technicians are responsible for installing and maintaining heating and cooling units for businesses and residences. Heating and cooling systems are becoming more advanced as time goes on, so the more training a technicians has, the better his or her job opportunities will be. The HVAC training consists mostly of basic knowledge in plumbing and electrical work, familiarity with terminology and products, familiarity with government regulations and the ability to work well with other people.

Most schools offer six-month to two-year programs.

Job outlooks is solid all over the country. Installation work can slow down during certain times of the year, but maintenance work is in demand year-round.

A trained HVAC mechanics can usually expect to earn approximately $17.00 an hour, depending on location, qualification and experience.
