Requirements for Becoming an Uber Driver in London

Personal Documents:

• National Insurance Number
• UK Plastic Driving Licence (original)
• Electronic Counterpart code (generate this at t.uber.com/ec)
• PCO Paper Licence (original + supporting documentation where conditions apply – medical letter, visa, etc)

Vehicle Documents:

• PHV Licence
• Logbook (or New Keepers slip)
• MOT (issued within the last 6 months)
• Private Hire Insurance Certificate

Uber X General Requirements:

• Driver must be at least 21 years of age
• Drivers must have an accepted vehicle (check below for additional info)
• Driver must undergo a screening process

Uber Vehicle Requirements:

• Your vehicle must have 4 doors (which open independently).
• Your vehicle must be from the year 2008 or newer.
• You must have a clean title (no salvage titles are allowed).
• Your vehicle must be in excellent condition (cosmetically & mechanically).
• Your vehicle cannot be a taxi-cab.

*For UberEXEC and UberLUX plates must be 2014 or newer.

Driver’s License:

To drive for Uber in London, you are required to have a valid driver’s license. Make sure your name is on the license (and that your license has not gone past its expiry date).

If you don’t have a driving license, but are interested in applying, you can book a session in a program sponsored by Uber called Ignition. You have to pre-book a session to have your ridseharing vehicle inspected. Book your inspection HERE.

Bring the following documents with you when you have your vehicle inspected:

• Existing PHV vehicle licence (if you have had a PHV before)
• Hire & reward insurance documents
• V5c DVLA Vehicle Registration Certificate
• Vehicle Modification Documents
• MOT certificate issued within the last 14 days
• Any other relevant documentation relating to the vehicle, where appropriate, such as Voluntary Individual Vehicle Approval (VIVA)

You must upload proof of insurance, which lists your name (as a driver), in addition to the vehicle you will be driving. If your name is not on the document, Uber will require additional documentation, such as a rental/hire agreement, to be uploaded to their online system.

Uber London Vehicle Requirements:

To drive for Uber, you must have a vehicle that is 2008  or newer.
