The Iee Code of practice states "There is no specific requirement for Inspection or testing"
This seems a straight forward statement. I guess that is one less expense you have to worry about in your business, right?
Then why do businesses Get their equipment PAT Tested? The code of practice answers that as well. "Inspection is implicit when carrying our maintenance, to confirm the safe condition or identify defects. Furthermore, some faults can only be identified by testing. A maintenance regime comprising user checks, formal visual inspection and, where appropriate, testing will help prevent accidents. Record keeping will demonstrate that a maintenance regime exist.
" the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations are not necessarily met simply by carrying out, inspections and tests on equipment. The aim is to ensure that equipment is maintained in a safe condition. Faulty equipment is required to be maintained or replaced. Records should be kept."(The IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Page 37 italics added)
