Drapery Hardware for Wide Windows: Part 3

We’ve talked about using our heavy duty rods and Brackets to expand the distance between brackets to treat wider window spans. But as always, there will be windows that refuse to cooperate and we need a plan B. Well, plan B at Helser Brothers consists of 2 good options.

Option 1 is Ruffino Traversing Track Rods

The first option is to switch the type of rod completely to our Ruffino Track Rod. Because the brackets secure the rod from the top, the carriers move smoothly.  Ruffino can be mounted on the wall, in pairs for double treatments, flush to the ceiling or with a specified drop. Our Ruffino brackets are also heavy duty steel. The beauty in that is that we can modify and customize then to meet your specific need.

Glitches Happen

There’s always a glitch and here it is. We don’t recommend splicing a one-way draw track rod. No matter how clean the cut, there is always a catch in the track that will irritate your client. Not to despair! We make our Ruffino Track Rod in 19′ sections. That’s 228″. So you can specify up to 228″ for a one-way draw treatment and a whopping 456″ for a center-draw treatment.

What’s it cost?

Price-wise, the track rod option is about on par with the rod and rings. Don’t forget that shipping is prepaid up to 106″ on a straight rod. Ruffino can be bowed which will reduce that number to make up for the added width of the package. Our Drapery Hardware Specialists will gladly supply a truck freight quote so you can give your client an accurate cost factor up front.

Bracket Hack #1

We decided early on in this series that we don’t like splices. Since you must have a bracket at a splice point, we make our standard brackets so that the saddle, or cup piece, covers the splice (except in the case of a bypass bracket). With Ruffino, because the brackets are on the top of the track, that splice is visible. It just is. So, we have a terrific bracket hack for track rod splices  We now offer a tiny 1/2″ strap saddle bracket that mounts in the center of the treatment and hides the splice. The overlap and underlap master carriers are held 1/2″ apart, but that little amount does not affect the overall look and function of the drapery treatment. This works with both the Ruffino and Isabella Wood traversing treatments!

Option 2

Option 2 is the much maligned bypass brackets with cut rings. We will show you how it’s done the right way in our next post.
