What Are Trade Show Displays?

A guy I know makes his living attending consumer shows of various kinds and flea markets. He doesn’t bother with trade show displays. His booth is a series of tables covered with low plastic tubs filled with flea market trinkets. There are knives, toys, belt buckles, cheap costume jewelry, fake military medals and insignia and much more. Most of these items are whatever he can buy cheaply through a liquidator. There is no backdrop or signage. This type of flea market exhibitor is generally not welcomed or encouraged at most consumer shows and not present at all at business to business or industry trade shows.

People who buy from this type of exhibitor are paying low prices for cheap and low quality merchandise. They know it. They are willing submitting themselves to the principle of “let the buyer beware”. There is no stated or implied product warranty or guarantees of customer satisfaction.

This is very different that the booth across the aisle that is set up by a company that makes and sells a high quality line of products. The company name and logo is prominently displayed on an attractive trade show display. The display includes colorful graphics of enlarged and enhanced product photography. At a glance a show attendee can tell that this is a company that is building relationships with its clients. This business will have a physical location or plant. It will have a phone number you can find in the phone book. The display speaks of quality.

What is a trade show display? A trade show display is a communications tool. It tells show attendees something about your company and the staff in the show booth. It speaks of product and company quality. It speaks of professionalism. It speaks of confidence in the product or service. It also speaks of stability, giving the customer confidence the company will be around for future sales and or service. A trade show display unit says: “Look at me. I represent value.”
