7 Tips to the Productive Home Office

Being able to work at home can be a wonderful blessing for those of us that have the option, even if it’s just a few days per week. However, many people find it difficult to stay focused and Productive while working from home. There’s no reason to be average. Let’s get you ahead of the curve.

Here are a 7 home office productivity tips that will help you get more done in less time:

1. Keep regular hours

Clients need to know when they can hear from you and when you will be accessible. This will help you not fill your day with other tasks and neglect your real estate business. A home Office often sets up bad habits with hours – these bad habits will negatively affect growing your business in the long run.

2. Dress for Success

It is an old adage to “dress for the job you want.” The truth behind it has more than meets the eye. Not only will you feel more professional, but you’ll find that you get more accomplished when you keep regular habits. As you read more about the entrepreneur lifestyle, you’ll discover a lot of research has been done around keeping habits. So, unless you’re looking to be a pajama model, get dressed for work each day.

3. Claim your Space

You’ll need to claim some real estate in your home that is off limits to anyone else. Choose your space wisely. If you are easily distracted, choose an area that minimizes what distracts you. Make sure that you have room to organize paperwork and know that items left will not be lost or disturbed by family members.

4. Stay On Schedule

Use a task management system to keep you on task. If you start a day by responding to emails, posting on social media, and checking real estate trends – it will be noon and you’ll have barely accomplished anything for the day. You’ll never be productive, if you can’t schedule your day.

5. Focus on Work

Yes, the laundry and dishes are piling up. Working from home will not work – if you are not able to stay attentive to growing your business and knocking out tasks for clients.

6. Break room

Establish your home break room and use it! Breaks are beneficial and will aid you in focusing when you get back to work. If you require a reminder to take a break and get the blood flowing by moving around, try a Fitbit/Jawbone type device to give you a jolting reminder.

7. Avoid Solitary Confinement Syndrome

Virtual tours and online learning are certainly beneficial, but these cannot replace the need to build your name professionally. You’ll be a better agent if you experience homes in person, because a virtual tour isn’t the same as the feel of a home. Plus, you’ll avoid lone wolf tendencies if you are not truant to your broker sales meetings. Be visible around other agents and you’ll benefit from their wisdom and experience.
