Being a ‘Workaholic’

Workaholic. Does that term sound familiar to you?

You love your job. You are taking up several projects and tasks and thriving to meet deadlines. It is possible that you are working at several places or have your own business. Now you are left with less time for yourself and you are dedicating most of the time to work. You have become less sociable; your last time out with friends or Family has become a vague memory. The only thing you know is your job.

There may be several reasons for being a workaholic.

Firstly, there may be economical reasons. There may be Financial turmoil in the economy due to which businesses have made numerous employees redundant. The present employees have to work extra hours and carry tasks which were previously done by others.

Secondly, technological reasons exist. Our world is a global village connecting people despite how far they are. Cell phones, instant messages allow people to stay in touch while being loaded with work.

Furthermore, there can be financial reasons. People can be found working at several places in order to earn sufficient money to keep their families away from poverty. Others can be found working for material gains.

Lastly, there can be personal reasons. Some people just surround themselves with endless work in order to keep their mind diverted. Work has become their life and they find this life better than reality they would have been facing.

Whatever the reason may be, Workaholic will eventually lead to further deterioration of one’s life. Not only will the person’s health will be affected but his family as well.

There is a line that divides hard work from workaholism. Hard workers do take out personal time while workaholics do not as they are not used to of other life. It’s always good to find jobs in Pakistan at better organizations that allow work life balance.

Steps should be taken to reduce workaholism. The first step is to take out some time and stay away from work. Delegate work. Take time off at weekends and sometimes go on vacations. Start workout to get back your body into shape. Finding a new hobby or two is a must. An appropriate number of hours of sleep is compulsory.
