Have you had experience firing people? (Job interview question)

Have you had experience Firing people?

Why this question is being asked:  If this is a function of the role, the interviewer wants to know if you have the stomach for it.

Strategy: If the answer is yes, Provide insight into your process for undertaking that action.

Sample answer: I have. It is never an easy process but in order for an organization to run efficiently, it has to be done sometimes. I am upfront with an employee when it is time as I don’t want the person to feel uncertainty or allow for the possibility of rumors spreading as to the person’s job status. It is important to provide feedback as to how he/she can improve in the future as well as provide resources so that he/she has a softer landing, such as outplacement services and a few weeks of severance pay.
