Traffic Generation Continued...

Ok, so where did we leave off? Oh yes PPC. So, we've created pay per click ads for our top 75-100 keywords on Google's Adwords program. Next, we need to collect some website performance metrics.

The way to do this is by ensuring that you're using Google's conversion tracking (if you don't already have Urchin or some other web analytic's software). It's very easy to set up, you simply click on the conversion tracking menu item at the top of your adwords account and follow the directions. When you're done they'll give you a piece of code that you'll need to insert into your website's HTML.

Now let your PPC ads do the work. Let them run for a little while and bring you a small trickle of traffic. This is the very beginning of the traffic generation process.

After you have some #'s you can do 1 of 2 things.

1. Improve your initial conversion rate (if it really stinks).
2. Use these numbers to 'entice' affiliates to join your affiliate program.

You decide which one to do, but now let's move on to contacting affiliates.

You take these numbers and find high ranking websites in your target market (do a search on your keywords and write down which sites show up in the organic SERP's) and contact them.

Now, contacting them isn't just sending them a dummy email saying, "hey my site converts at 1% and you make some money will you put my affiliate link up?" that's what every other loser is doing.

What I like to do is to look up their info in the whois directory and find a phone number or physical address to contact them at. Most of the time I'll call if I can find a phone number. When I call I introduce myself and talk about their site a bit. I might say something like this, "Hello. My name is Tim and I'm the owner of the website www.widgets.com and I came across your site www.bigwidgets.com and I really like it. How long have you been running it?"

This usually gets them talking about their site and leads into a natural discussion about how they got it going and what they see it doing in the future. Depending on how net savvy the webmaster is I segway into something like this, "well, that's great. It seems like a really great resource that my visitors would get a lot out of and I think my site's content would be something of interest to your visitors too. Do you want to swap links or even better yet I have an affiliate program..."

You get the idea.

You want to separate yourself from the pack, 99.99% of website owners will never do this so by simply 'calling' people you'll separate yourself.

WASH, RINSE, REPEAT.

Do this over and over again and you will absolutely EXPLODE your website traffic.

For now, we'll stop there for traffic generation because you can do that over and over again to drive a ton of traffic on a daily consistent basis.
