basic SEO

I hope you’ve had time to check out at least 1 of those copywriting resources… you should store them in your ‘favorites’ folder and refer back to them daily.

On to basic search engine optimization (SEO),

When you first build a site you want to make sure that it is valuable and informative for the reader first and foremost. Don’t let any SEO god tell you otherwise. That’s rule number one, always build your sites content for the visitor.

With that being said there are ways to make it valuable for the visitor and the search engines at the same time and that’s what we’re going to focus on.

Basic SEO consists of on page factors and off page factors. On page factors are things like your keyword density, and various HTML tags (meta tags, etc…). These are all things that you can do to your page to make it more attractive to the engines. Learning all of the specific tags is not necessary, basically all you need to know on a very basic level is that you should have,

-Meta tags
-Use header tags (h1, h2, h3, etc…)
-Use your keywords in your page title, description, H1 tag, and in the very beginning of your first paragraph.

After that make sure that all of your HTML tags are properly closed off and correct.

Off page factors are basically in bound links, commonly referred to as backlinks. These are a major part of Google’s algorithm. The actual text that another website uses to link to you is known as the ‘anchor text’ to your site and that is also important.

You want the anchor text to contain your targeted keywords, and the more links pointing to your site from reputable well established websites the better your site will rank.

Well, that’s it for now, I purposely left this as a very high ground discussion. If you have any questions just dig into each part of what I said above by doing some research. For instance visit Google and type in tag and see what comes up. Or type in backlinks and anchor text and read all the information that you see.

That’s it for now… 
