CRICKET IN THE COUNTRY

Ask any teenage boy between the ages of 13 and 18 what their favourite sport is. 3 out of 5 would surely say Cricket. Cricket is no new sport. It has been played for decades now, both internationally as well as between states and cities in the country. Though Cricket is not the national sport of the country, it is a known fact that it is an unofficial national sport. With each new season of Cricket, new stars emerge. However, is there a changing trend that we fail to notice?

As we walk down memory lane, though India officially started playing cricket in the 1930s, they did not quite taste victory. It was only in the 1970’s that the cricket team in India saw players like Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Vishwanath, Kapil Dev and Bishen Singh Bedi. Quickly thereafter, India won their first World Cup Championship in the year 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Thereafter, India saw some great players between 2000 and 2010. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Kumble, Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly played some spectacular cricket, laying down the foundation for the Indian Cricket team to be what it is today. The last decade has seen amazing young talent in players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh to name a few. Today, India is ranked first in Test and ODIs and fifth in T20s by the ICC.

Not only has the quality of cricket being played by the Indian team in the last decade or so greatly improved, but there is a sea of change with respect to the players being chosen as well. Initially, players were chosen only from the now metropolitan or tier 1 cities. Some examples are Sachin Tendulkar from Mumbai, Rahul Dravid from Bangalore and Virender Sehwag from Delhi. This was mostly due to lack of facilities and infrastructure in the smaller cities. However, with more exposure to the cricket industry, youngsters from across the country aspire to be a star someday. A classic example of this is M.S.Dhoni who hails from the small district of Ranchi. Though having little to no resources, he is now a legend in the cricket fraternity. This success has created a ripple effect in tier 3 and tier 4 cities. And one of the parallel consequences of this is the setting up of cricket Coaching institutes in smaller towns and cities. For ex. even in emerging cities like Raipur, there are quite a few good cricket coaching institutes like Terminator Academy, CIC, Cricket Academy of Pathans etc.

These cities, though small and not very well equipped, have started to set up coaching institutes that can be a solid platform to encourage young talent. A coaching institute is very different from gully cricket in the sense that young boys can receive professional training which makes them better equipped and trained. Another pleasant changing trend is that parents are more than willing to encourage their children to undertake coaching and follow their dreams and passion which was not the case a decade or so ago. There are a variety of reasons for this shift. The cricket world is glamorized today in the sense that there is not only fame but money in the profession as well. The introduction of T20 in the country has also increased exposure to the game in the country. Because of this, they are now more open to the concept of cricket being a prospective career choice for their children which is a very good advancement in their mind-set.

Here are some of the reasons why you should consider professional cricket coaching:

  • Motivation: Professional coaches give you the motivation that you might not get otherwise. They push your limits, help build self-confidence and try to work on motivating you to be the best that you can be.
  • Weakness or strengths: A coach will be able to identify your weaknesses and strengths when you step onto the cricket field. Not only will he help you identify it, but he will also help you improve your strengths will simultaneously changing your weaknesses into your strength as well.
  • Discipline: It is a known fact that to be a professional cricketer, discipline is of utmost importance. By getting professional training, you can work on your discipline, punctuality and hard work.
  • Net practice: Playing with your friends in the playground and playing professionally can be very different. Net practice sessions will help you develop the necessary skillsets that you require to play professionally.

So wait no more. Enroll into your nearest coaching institute and make your dreams a reality. In case you are looking for one, you can find cricket coaching institutes in Raipur here.
