Bog Standard or is it? The Different types of Welfare Units Explained!

Legislation dictates a must for onsite Welfare provision. Welfare units offer several amenities such as a canteen, Toilet facilities and even a shower; for those big jobs! Tardis offers a complete service for welfare cleaning, emptying, consumable replenishment and water supply. Depending on the welfare unit and the usage, it can affect how regular it will need to be serviced. Moreover, what vehicle is despatched to tackle the job required.

We often are asked what type of waste service would be needed based on different welfare units. At Tardis, we offer two types of service maintenance for our welfare units:

Welfare Chemical Toilet – A smaller capacity unit

A welfare chemical toilet will have a small re-circulating flush tank toilet and a sink that is usually connected with hot water. They are usually serviced on a 3.5-tonne service vehicle but can be serviced on a Tardis Tanker or our 7.5-tonne service vehicle. They all carry clean water which will be used to refill the units water tank.

Allows up to 126 litres of chemical toilet waste and 22 litres of clean water (not drinking water).  

Portable Chemical Toilet

A portable chemical toilet will have a small re-circulating flush tank toilet and a re-circulating water tank. At Tardis, we have a huge variety of different portable toilets which we hire for example a disabled toilet, Events toilet, Construction toilet, Mains toilet and more. Tardis offers a service which leaves the toilets looking fresh and smelling clean while replacing toilet rolls and hand towels.

A portable chemical toilet usually requires a smaller service job. Servicing is often conducted by our 3.5-tonne service truck. An important reminder, when putting a portable toilet on site make sure there is access for our Tardis tanker. Self Contained Welfare Toilet

A self-contained welfare toilet can vary in style but fundamentally will have a larger tank than a Welfare Chemical Toilet. It will contain a normal flushing toilet and sink with the main difference is that the waste goes to a bigger tank. Majority of these tanks are bigger than 30 gallons which would require a Tardis Tanker to empty and refill the clean water. The water provided isn’t drinking water but water that is safe to use in flushing of toilets.

Welfare Units With a Toilet Block Tank – A larger capacity unit!

If your welfare unit uses a toilet block tank, please view our welfare servicing page. Located under the welfare block, we supply waste tanks of various sizes to suit your needs. Once the waste tank becomes full, we will service the unit and remove the waste.

Each service allows up to 4500 litres of toilet tank waste removal and up to 1000 litres of clean (not drinking water) removal. There must be clear access to the site for our Tardis 32-tonne wash down tanker. Click here to see the spec sheets for our waste tanks.

Did you know?

• All the toilets that get serviced have a blue chemical added to help with the smell and all the consumables replaced.
• Remember, all waste is legally disposed of at authorised disposal sites.
• Toilet servicing is done by our 3.5-tonne service vehicle.  However, for emergencies, toilet services could be done on an HGV or a 7.5-tonne mini tanker (if the tanker is near your location).
